Go Green for the environment and
for your health
Our suppliers are FSC COC Certified
We offer Healthy choices for your finishes.

We offer Bamboo but it is very pricey.

There are many persons who are extremely sensitive to chemicals. We
wanted to offer an alternative, natural platform product as an option for
those persons. The natural finished platform is also of course good for our
environment. Try our chemical free finish for your platform bed.

When your health is involved we recommend staying chemical free as
much as possible.

Our health is a valuable commodity and worth all efforts to protect it. We
are firm believers in Alternative health care and cannot stress enough that
we must take control of our health and not depend on allopathic medicine.
I recommend you check a website we buy all our vitamins and herbs from.

None of our wood has been treated and for anyone who would like to
minimize their exposure to chemicals, as well as individuals with chemical
sensitivities and allergies, should be interested in the natural finishing
alternatives below.

We have done our best to eliminate  sources of chemical contamination
that consumers would prefer not to bring into their homes.  While these
may be helpful to those with chemical sensitivities and allergies, we can
not guarantee that our furniture will be the solution to all of their problems
if using our natural finishes.

Veneered plywood — our standard furniture uses the highest grade of
plywood for the back of dressers, bookcases and in the bottom of our
drawer box construction. Both of these parts are more stable when made
from plywood, and require no allowance for expansion and contraction. In
the thicknesses that are used, the plywood is also a stronger material. To
eliminate these uses, we would have to substitute a thicker hardwood,
which is more expensive in cost and requires additional labor to install and
machine to allow for expansion and add weight to the shipping.

We offer:
  • Milk paint for color
  • Top coat for a natural  finish or on top of milk paint as a sealer
  • Pure Tongue Oil which hardens over time and seals.

These natural products of course are more expensive but worth the cost.
There is an added cost  to our normal listed finishing price.

MILK PAINT PRODUCT BULLETIN

Old Fashioned MILK PAINT is a re-creation of the ancient MILK PAINT
formula used for centuries before the sale of commercially made paints. It
is an authentic finish for use in the restoration of antiques or in the
reproduction of antique furniture. It comes in rich colors that are durable
and do not fade. Also, since
real MILK PAINT is made from elements that
pre-date the use of petrochemicals and other toxic bases and solvents, it
is biodegradable, non-toxic, and odor-free when dry.  MILK PAINT is
preferred by custom furniture builders, interior designers, artists,
craftsmen, do-it-yourselfers, and those who are sensitive to the need to
protect the environment.

APPLICATIONS

MILK PAINT is used to achieve an authentic "old look" for furniture, floors,
cupboards, woodwork, walls, signs, toys, and stenciling. It penetrates into
all clean, porous (unfinished) surfaces. Mixed with our EXTRA-BOND*, it will
also adhere to just about any non-porous surface. With a topcoat finish of
CLEAR COAT*, to seal the painted surface, it can be used for furniture
subject to fingerprints and spills. For surfaces expected to receive heavier
wear, we recommend using a heavy-duty topcoat. An oil or solvent-based
sealer is recommended for kitchen cabinets as acrylics may not protect
against certain kitchen oils such as grease splatters and olive oil spills.

MILK PAINT is used by artists and craftsmen to create decorative results
that cannot be achieved with other paints. The dead flat, uneven, grainy
look is quite distinctive.

MILK PAINT is also used for interior walls, floors and woodwork in homes,
offices and public areas used by people allergic or otherwise sensitive to
chemically based paints.

ADVANTAGES

  • Produces an authentic Colonial or Shaker finish Adheres to almost
    all clean, porous surfaces
  • Environmentally safe, non-toxic and anti-bacterial Non-flammable
  • Dead flat finish. Solvent free
  • Fast drying Odorless when dry
  • Comes in deep rich colors Longest lasting paint known
  • Colors can be blended, by the user, to produce many tints and
shades. Permanent colors; will not fade
  • Easily cleaned up with water

PRODUCT BULLETIN FOR CLEAR COAT
(Water-borne Acrylic)

CLEAR COAT is a water-borne acrylic. When applied over Milk Paint it
protects the paint finish against water-spotting, dirt and abrasion. It also
increases scrubbability. It is preferred by custom furniture builders, interior
designers, craftsmen and do-it-yourselfers. It is environmentally safe and
non-toxic and has no odor when dry.

APPLICATIONS

CLEAR COAT is used as a finish top-coat over Milk Paint. It can also be
used as a natural finish for wood applied directly to surfaces such as bare
wood, plywood, and other surfaces. Can be used for furniture, woodwork,
etc. Safe to use on children's toys. Clear Coat (or similar acrylic sealers)
will not protect against certain kitchen oils such as grease splatters and
olive oil spills, therefore an oil-based sealer is recommended for such
surfaces as kitchen cabinets. For floors and other surfaces expected to
receive heavy wear we recommend the use of a more durable top-coat
specifically designed for that purpose.

ADVANTAGES

  • Can be used for interior applications Long shelf life
  • Environmentally safe and non-toxic Adheres to most clean surfaces
  • Fast drying Non-flammable
  • Dries clear; (does not change the color) Dries to a hard durable
    surface
  • Soap and Water clean-up Low odor; No odor when dry
  • Seals completely; water beads up on surface

*this information is from the Milk Paint site.
This is a pine bed
done with snow white
milk paint two coats.
Very similar to white
wash. The wood is
Southern Yellow Pine.
Our Pine is very yellow
so this is pretty good
coverage. We have
not tried to go more
solid with it. But Good
Health and no Smell!
